This week's theme was inspired by an interview of Dawn Ng on her 2015 installation titled 'Perfect Stranger'. Her exploration of the universality of human beings in her art was fascinating to me. While we each might possess a different quality or idea or experience of what love, loss, darkness, light, joy, sorrow, frailty, and force are, we still somehow share a common understanding of these themes and how they play out in our lives. At a time where the world is incredibly divisive, I thought what she shared in her interview was a reminder of what we hold as one humanity.
It's the innate understanding (that) we each possess of matter like love and loss, darkness and light, joy and sorrow, frailty and force. That "universal" is important to me because it is what makes us human.
