In an attempt to express the lyrics of the song that inspired this week's arrangements, flowers with colours of the sunrise were picked. YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL

This theme was inspired by a very long quote from Frederick Buechner, one of my favourite writers. The TL;DR version would be that praising God is not about doling out compliments like we do to all things that are good. Praising Him is more than words strung together in a melody, but it is inscribed into the very being of all creation. This is my hallelujah, one not of words, but of beauty and attention paid to His creation - flowers. You praise the heartbreaking beauty of Jessye Norman singing the Vier Letzte Lieder of Richard Strauss. You praise the new puppy for making its offering on the lawn for once instead of on the living-room rug. Maybe you yourself are praised for some generous thing you have done. In each case, the praise that is handed out is a measured response. It is a matter of saying something to one degree or another complimentary, with the implication that if Jessye Norman's voice had sprung a leak or the puppy hadn't made it outside in time or your generous deed turned out to be secretly self-serving, a different sort of response altogether would have been called for. This was a theme specifically for women. I wanted to express through flowers the tenderness and strength unique to women, and to celebrate, appreciate, and bring them to reminder. I wanted to put the spotlight on the beauty that women hold in them - a beauty that transcends the physical body and appearance. Our outer body will continue to waste away with the days, but may our inner selves be renewed daily.
